What happened to us?

Image
I thought by now, my country would have been an envy amongst the comity of nations. But no, we are only a shadow of what we are supposed to be. Simply because our  leaders are leapers who lack what it takes to go far.  Instead of propelling the country into prosperity and development, they have turned the country into a wagon for self promotion and aggrandizement. I am also dazed at the kind of people we Nigerians are. A people whose resilience has gradually become foolishness. Is it not unimaginable that thesame oppressed masses are the first to condemn and criticise anyone who rises in their defence? We are like the proverbial slaves who love their chains. We are a people very good at suffering and smiling.  We are a people whom once we have enough for ourselves and our families we are no longer concerned about the millions of others who have nothing and are dying in penury and poverty. Tell me, What is the fate of a country who would invest lavishly in fun and entertainme

HE LIED TO HER.

Image
From the beginning, woman has been the first and easy target of Satan’s subtlety and lies. In the garden of Eden, He said to the woman: “hath God said, ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?” With just this question, he extracted a most vital information from her and presented to her a lie. That old serpent, the devil, shattered the truth of God’s word right in the face of the woman.   …And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die, for God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. (Gen 3:4-5)

But if you didn’t, then, these writs are fully yours for the taken. Pastor E. Adeboye in that devotional titled “Matrimonial Robber” wrote extensively and bluntly on one of the vices plaguing our society today. A vice that is so common and popular, that it has become a norm; Deadly, yet selling. The alarming divorce rates; the emotional injuries here and there; the disappointments, frustrations and lack of fulfillment in many lives owe to this vice. Here it is:

A disposable nest: Is this really what the earth is?

Image
Growing up in a remote part of the country gave me the opportunity for some adventures not common to dwellers in highbrow areas. These included fruits gathering, bird hunting, tree climbing, etc. Many times during these adventures, I will come across things that will leave me wondering and thinking. The bird nest was one of such things. Sometimes, it was an empty nest, at other times a nest with eggs or one with fledglings. Some of the questions that will run through my little mind then include:

...where you baptised in the name of paul?: a question many Christians should answer.

The increasing level of fanaticism associated with church labels and general overseers, is a proof that denominationalism is a force that every christian needs deal with as we earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. The word denominate means 'to give a name to' or 'to designate'. In this sense, every group of 'Christians' operating under a particular name consist a denomination. But denominationalism on the other hand means to emphasize denominational differences to the point of being narrowly exclusive. So the problem is not necessarily the existence
